“In 2010, the Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary provided 8,117 hours of volunteer services and over $12,000 to our community.”
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary provides the volunteer support base for service, fundraising and friendraising for Kona Community Hospital (KCH).
Membership in the Auxiliary is open to men and women, fifteen years of age or older, of all backgrounds and abilities, who are interested in providing services to patients that the staff would not normally provide.
Volunteers are involved in patient interactions such as healing touch or assisting with long-term care patients; provide patient services such as Carts with Heart; work in the Gift Shop or help with the weekly Bake Sale at the cafeteria. Auxiliary volunteers assist the Kona Hospital Foundation in fundraising activities such as the Hokulia Golf Tournament, and participate in the many community parades and activities representing the Auxiliary and Kona Community Hospital.
The Auxiliary provides a number of nursing scholarships and continuing education funds for KCH nurses. Other fundraising activities support monthly stipends for non-funded items to Long-Term Care and Kalani Ola. The Auxiliary also works to fund special requests from various hospital departments for unbudgeted necessities.
The Auxiliary provides a communication link between the community and the Kona Community Hospital. Community suggestions through the Auxiliary are welcome and warmly received by the administration and staff.
